36th Annual Lindquist Pops Concert Set for July 13
Thousands of people are expected to attend the annual Lindquist Family Symphony Pops and Fireworks at Weber State University on July 13 at 9 p.m.
Now in its 36th year, the celebration, initiated and sponsored by the Lindquist family of Ogden, is a longstanding tradition for Northern Utah families.“It brings the community to campus, so everyone can celebrate together,” said Beverly Rudd, WSU event coordinator. “It’s become an incredible tradition at Weber State, and everybody in the community loves it.”
A 60-minute concert featuring the New American Philharmonic will begin at 9 p.m. at the Ada Lindquist Plaza. The performance will include Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture,” complete with a battery of 17 cannons. Following the concert, attendees will enjoy one of the largest fireworks displays in Utah. The community is invited to attend free of charge.
WSU’s radio station, KWCR 88.1 Weber FM, will broadcast the concert live. The university will provide beverage booths, first-aid stations, restroom facilities and recorded music until the concert begins. Beverage booths open at 5:30 p.m.
On-campus parking will be available, but limited. The roundabouts off Harrison Boulevard and Dixon Drive will be closed to traffic. Access to campus will be through Edvalson Street, Skyline Drive, and Birch and Taylor Avenues. A limited number of handicapped parking spaces will be reserved in the A-1 lot, which is north of the plaza area. Attendees needing this parking should enter from Birch Avenue, and drive west on Edvalson Street.
Concert-goers traveling in motor homes or larger vehicles are encouraged to park on the east side of campus near Stewart Stadium. The Dee Events Center offers additional parking.
To minimize damage to the grounds, no blankets, chairs or saving space will be permitted before 6 p.m., July 12. Items placed on the lawn prior to that time will be removed. No tarps, stakes or tent pegs are allowed. Stakes will be removed due to safety and liability risks. No personal fireworks or pets of any kind will be allowed on campus. Spectators are asked to clean up their area and drive with courtesy and caution following the event.
