American Legion Utah Boys State 2020 Canceled
It is with our deepest regret that today, April 2, 2020 we made the decision to join 28 other states,
as well as Boys Nation, in canceling our Utah Boys State program for this year. Given the unknown
potential risks associated with the COVID-19 virus that could impact the safety of all our
participants, and in favor of an abundance of caution, the decision was regretfully made.
What to expect going forward: All boys that have already registered for Utah Boys State class of 2020
will receive an official letter notifying them of this decision.
All money received will be returned to whomever paid it as soon as the checks can be mailed out.
Scholarships:
The 2020 Samsung scholarship program is canceled.
Weber State University (WSU) scholarships: We are working with WSU and hope to get clear guidance and understanding
about this year’s Utah Boys State class of 2020. As soon as the information is available it will be posted here.
Utah Boys State Foundation and private scholarships will be needs-based, and any boy desiring to apply
will do so next year along with their 2021 Boys State class registration.
We are working to modify our eligibility criteria for the 2021 class to allow for and accommodate any
of the 2020 applicants that have completed their online registration, as of today, to be able to
participate in the 2021 Utah Boys State program, as a combined junior/senior class. Applicants should
expect that they will have to re-apply and go through the process of completing a new and updated
registration packet.
