Jeanne A. Evenden Sustainability Leadership Scholarship

After a distinguished thirty-five-year career dedicated to land protection and with an unwavering interest in and commitment to energy conservation and the environment, Jeanne A. Evenden is inspired to support Weber State University's pledge to sustainability by investing in students who have a passion for making a positive impact in the world.

The Jeanne A. Evenden Sustainability Leadership Scholarship is established to support junior, senior, and graduate students who are enrolled full- or part-time in a field related to sustainability (e.g. Energy Engineering, Environmental Sciences or Studies, Applied Environmental Geosciences, Geography, Environment & Sustainability). Consideration will also be given to students enrolled in studies with an environmental/sustainability focus such as biology, botany, ecology, hydrology, journalism, natural resource management, political science, zoology, or any other relevant field.

This is an annual scholarship with awards ranging from $1000 to $5000 for 1-5 students. 

Deadline to apply extended to February 22, 2024.

Criteria

  • Must have a declared major.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership in sustainability through a specific activity, project and/or focus of study.
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • May be enrolled full- or part-time.
  • Preference for students with demonstrated financial need. 
  • Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible. 

Uses

  • The award may be used for tuition, fees, and other qualifying educational expenses.

Process

  • Complete FAFSA for the 2024-2025 academic year.
  • Complete the WSU Financial Aid Verify Account.
  • Complete the WSU Specialized Scholarship Application.
  • Submit the application form, which includes a short personal essay (about 600 words) answering one of these three questions:
    • In what ways are you committed to sustainability (social and/or environmental) and how has this manifested itself in your life?
    • How do you see your future goals and values contributing to a more sustainable world?
    • How do you plan to use your area of study to help you fight/alleviate the impact of climate change?
  • All of the above should be completed by February 22, 2024.
